North Shore Piano Service offers a loft in Northwest Evanston, featuring a beautifully reconditioned 1887 Steinway Grand Piano and a Yamaha Upright Piano for practice, recitals, and teaching sessions.
Our large, sunny, and air-conditioned loft provides an ideal
environment for musicians to refine their skills and perform in a professional setting. We offer affordable studio rentals, available hourly or daily, making it the perfect place for music studies in a comfortable and inspiring atmosphere.

North Shore Stride and Ragtime Piano Society is starting at the loft!
If you’re interested in joining other players and appreciators of ragtime and stride style of piano, let us know! The idea is to listen, play, share and learn this exciting style of piano music pioneered by the greats, like Fats Waller, Jelly Roll Morton and the like.
Our host will be Sam Grossner (SammyG) who is a stride and jazz pianist that has been enjoying and playing this music for decades. You can see some of his playing at the links below. Room & Fees
- 6′ Steinway Grand
- Yamaha Upright Piano
- Room Size: 1,000 square feet
- Suitable for individual practice, small group rehearsals, recitals, and masterclasses.
- WiFi and stereo with Bluetooth, turntable for records (33, 45, 78) with USB to computer.
- Study any piece using your phone and the stereo bluetooth to enhance your practice.
- Writing desk
- Rate: $30/hr
- Special rates available for groups and recurring bookings.
Daily and long term rates are available for teachers that would like to schedule their own classes on a part time or regular basis. Please contact us for more information.
Hours
Our studio is typically open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and some Sundays. Exceptions are:
• Thursdays: 4:45-5:45 p.m.
• Mondays: 6:30-7:30 p.m.
• Saturdays: 9:30-10:30 a.m.
However, we can be flexible and adjust our hours to accommodate current bookings and studio needs.
To reserve your preferred time slot and discuss any specific requirements, please get in touch with us directly. This way, we can ensure the best possible service and confirm a time that works for you.
Booking
Bookings may be made by phone, email, or in person.
Payment is due at the time of booking.
Terms of Rental
By booking the studio, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions:
- Cancellations are allowed up to ONE WEEK before your booked time. If there are extenuating circumstances, please contact us and we will try to accommodate you.
- Renter shall use the practice space solely for the purpose of music practice
- No food or drinks in the studio.
- No amplified instruments.
- Piano(s) will not be moved for any reason.
- Stands and chairs will remain in the room at all times.
- North Shore Music Loft is not responsible for lost or stolen goods.
- General goodwill – please help us keep our space in good condition for everyone!

- Convenient street and lot parking are available.
- We’re easily accessible by public transportation, with the 201 Central/Ridge bus line and Central Street Metra station nearby.
About Us
North Shore Music Loft is managed by Sam Grossner, a seasoned piano technician and musician with over four decades of experience. Since 1980, Sam has been tuning, repairing, and restoring pianos, working with renowned artists such as Liberace, Aretha Franklin, and The Beach Boys.
Beyond his technical expertise, Sam is also a skilled pianist and instructor, specializing in various styles, including stride piano. His deep passion for music and dedication to excellence ensure that every piano at North Shore Music Loft is maintained to the highest standards, offering an exceptional experience for everyone who visits.
